Kana's father left when she was quite young. She remembers very little about him, and what she does remember tends to hurt. Her mother left not long after he did, so she and her brother ended up in foster care. He did his best to protect her, but her abilities caused things to be difficult for the both of them. She began to retreat into her artwork when she learned to sew. It made it easier since she could try to make clothes that the other children did not make fun of quite as much. It took time, but she took to it naturally. She even made clothes for her brother, though he had never had as many problems as she had when it came to children's mockery. 

When Xavier left, the plan was for him to take her with him, but until he was able to make enough money, that was not possible. She was taken in by Leona during this time, and so even though the woman was kind and a wonderful protector, Kana felt even more depressed than ever. It was the first time she was forced to be somewhere new without her brother, but his morning and evening calls helped her through all of this.

She longs for the day she can leave Leona's home and once again live with her brother, the only person in the world who understands her.
